A sunday treat-Egg dum biriyani

Being my first post in this category I am sharing my latest try and so far my best tried recipes on cooking. After having moved to Torino, Italy since a couple of months, it is natural to try on an Italian cuisine. But am an upside down person-precisely a mess. Hahaha..lol! Shared below is one recipe that tempted me a lot to try when my sister-in-law Dr.Shalini tried casually not knowing that she is going to inspire me a lot to try it at once.

Basmati rice- 1.5 cups
Clean and soak it for 1/2 an hour
Onions- medium sized 2 Cut length wise
Tomato-medium size 2 Cut and chopped
Green chillies- 2 Cut lengthwise
Ginger garlic paste-1 tblspn
Coriander leaves-handful
Mint leaves-handful
Eggs- 3 Hardboiled and peeled
Eggs-3 more (I used egg whites only)
Yoghurt-2 tblspn
Lemon juice-2 tblspn
Biriyani masala- 1 tblspn
Garam masala- 1 tblspn
Red chilli powder- 1/2 tblspn
Turmeric powder- as reqd.
Salt- to taste
Oil & Ghee

The recipe:

  1. Scramble the eggs sprinkling turmeric, salt and pepper and put it aside
  2. Cut lengthwise the hardboiled peeled eggs and  shallow fry to get a little golden colour and set it aside.
  3. Parallely, in a kadai pour  a tea spoon ghee and a tblspoon of oil.
  4. Put 3/4 of the cut onions and fry until they caramelise.
  5. Put the slit green chillies
  6. Fry for a minute followed by ginger garlic paste.
  7. Fry until raw smell oozes away
  8. Put the cut tomatoes and fry until they are mashy. Add reqd salt.
  9. Put the biriyani masala, red chilli powder and turmeric powder. Fry for a minute or three.
  10. Put the yoghurt. Simmer and fry the masala until oil oozes out.
  11. Set it aside and when it is warm and cool pour the lemon juice and leave it
  12. Boil and cook the basmati rice with turmeric powder, salt , garam masala and jeera.
  13. When it is 3/4 cooked drain the water. Save a little water to mix it with the masala (which might be a paste after cooling down)
  14. Let the rice cool and dont allow it to be sticky. Fry the 1/4 onion separately.
  15. Grease In a big mouth vessel with oil.

Layers for Dum:

  1. Spread out half of the boiled rice
    Layer 1
  2. Spread out the masala
    Layer 2
  3. Spread the scrambled egg
    Layer 3
  4. Spread the rest half of the boiled rice
    10
  5. Arrange the boiled eggs
    Layer 5
  6. Arrange the fried onions(14).
  7. Sprinkle the Coriander leaves
  8. Cover with a Aluminium foil

Venice-My living dream

Hearing, reading and seeing pictures wouldn’t do any good than visiting Venice or Europe for that matter. Being in Venice is my first in to do list after landing in Italy which happened due to a personal reason. Set your mind for surprise once you get down from Santa Lucia railway station because at the first look you see a pedestrian platform at one end, parallely running are waters in the middle and at the other parallel side you have the vibrant buildings in pink, green blue etc, all lovely dream colours. I was dumbfound and couldn’t ask for any more beautiful city picturesque.

No Hero hondas, Hyundai and whatever you have used for a public transport from your respective native towns. To go around in this island the Water taxis, boats, ferry and cruises are the public transport systems available.
Queen of Adriatic stands elegant and beautiful with all her narrow uncountable streets and never ending cute bridges. A walk in the Venice should be a thing of joy forever. Never was I tired taking huge strolls over and over again. My pedometer read 50,000 steps! and I was ready for more. You can find Venice’s natives well settled at their home sweet home calm and quiet and it appeared like they have retired from their services. The Island is kept bustling all day and night solely by the tourists.

All through our walks in the pedestrian street side we can find “The Masks” shops s gold gilded, pure white, stoned, flashy coloured, sharp eyed and you cannot escape the temptation to buy and try one for yourself.

The windows of all the houses were so perfectly hinged and decorated with lively green plants and colourful flowers and it was a eye taking glee to admire all of them. Most of the bridges looked small but were enough to accommodate the width of the running waters of the Island. I almost popped upon every bridge to click a selfie and importantly the venezia view from the bridges are splendid that you can afford to miss even one.

The St.Mark’s square- It was big, huge, 360 degree neck rotation mandatory, eyebrows concaved down, eyes didn’t blink, dumb mouth, was deaf to the near around hustles and what not.A big square flanked by a lengthy and tall building with a basilica in the centre and a huge spire type bell tower in front of it.  Yes I was amazed to enjoy the first look..no second look.. no third look.. kept on and on.

I wanted to visit even during the night because I guaranteed my brain that it will be breathtaking and it was. All I did was sat at one corner and became a psycho viewing it again and again for internal pleasure of mind and soul.

All I  didn’t know was to walk further from the Mark’s square and guess amidst what I was? The waters of the lagoon on one side with a distant view of silently standing St. Giorgio , centre arena filled with cameras and clicks by bubbling tourist in perfectly attired native dresses and couples kissing each other on romantic vibrations and on the other end The Basilica and The Winged Lion. Last but not the least the chilled breeze and blue gloomy weather all made me feel high for eternal happiness and peace package.

I found myself a side bench, sat and the psycho in me started gazing for more pleasure of sights. First time I saw beauty of landscape so beautifully , elegantly  and humbly boasting in front of me. I wished I come back again someday and sit at the same place to enjoy that cannot be expressed kind of happiness rushing in me. Venice you defeated me not once or twice but countlesslyt and punished me with eternal love and joy. Truly Venice is my living day dream.

A blog! Finally here I am. Many are the thoughts that I am travelling through and many more are the phases of  life that I am facing ahead. Am pretty much sure this is happening in everybody’s life. Thank  you God! For all of the phases are so far so good to be cherished forever and they are too good to fade away from my memory. “Change is inevitable” and I have never tried to escape from the changes in my life. Every phase of my life is interesting and treats me with a surprise element. Life demands me to bear a unique face in every new phase. I am quite a little travel enthusiast and I am blessed to be hitched with a man who is a lot more travel lover.   Marriage has also made me discover my inclination towards cooking and eating. So what is this blog about? Yes..you have guessed it rightly! Travel, cooking and  the way I look upon to changing phases of my life is all I wish to share and cherish in this blog. My enthusiastic husband is my greatest inspiration for me to start blogging and also recently, few of my kith and kin have started blogging which has kindled me gradually to start one of my own. I will always welcome my readers to comment, criticize and share their views on my opinions.

Inspiration is the bottom line for any progress. Keeping ourselves inspired is always conducive to a good mind. So let us keep exploring and share the knowledge after all knowledge is wealth! And so am I here to share the little interesting things of my life some of which I do out of inspirations and rest of them falling in places on its own… grrr.. God damn! I don’t know why it is happening!lol.. Hahah..Image In the Pic: My little cute niece, Aditi. With happiness Sujitha
